Meet Chris McAuliffe! Chris has been volunteering with the Yountville Welcome Center since 2021. You can find Chris working the Yountville Welcome Center every Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
What brought you to Napa County?
Napa was between Fairfield and Petaluma, I worked in Petaluma and my spouse worked in Fairfield.
Describe your volunteer path and how it lead you to the Yountville Chamber of Commerce.
I managed wastewater facilities for 35 years and worked closely with the local city staff and councils, the citizens, and employees. As such, I volunteered for many local groups such as; Chambers, environmental, business, and leadership groups.
What is your favorite part about volunteering for the Yountville Chamber?
Meeting other volunteers and interacting with visitors and winery personnel.
What does volunteering entail?
Keeping-up with the constant changes in visitor activities and changing winery offerings.
What was the last experience that made you a stronger person?
My recent visit to Peru. The 12 day hike above 14,000 feet altitude renewed my belief in my abilities to continue with these types of endeavors.
What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?
People are interesting, complicated and yet we are all simple with basic needs.
What would you do if you weren’t doing this?
I’d be a wine master.
What’s a fun fact about you that many people may not know?
I wrestled for Oregon State University.
Where’s your favorite place in the world?
Any place, at any time, as long as it’s outdoors and I have a glass of cabernet in hand.
What is the one food you cannot resist?
Anything as long as it has a nice presentation, has a great bouquet, and of course – tastes great.
What is the one thing you cannot live without?
Great wine!
What is your motto or personal mantra?
Live life with acts of kindness
What are your MUST see spots for anyone visiting Napa Valley?
Westwood’s view of the valley and bay. The loop drive of hwy 121 and 29 in full color (Fall and Spring).
Three words to best describe you?
Conscientious, reliable, adventuresome, sarcastic, humorous (I have two of them). Oh, and I can’t count.
