New General Industry Workplace Violence Prevention Bill Starting July 1, 2024
Last year, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 553, creating a new general industry workplace violence prevention standard. As previously reported, effective July 1, 2024, California employers need to implement and maintain a comprehensive workplace violence prevention plan, which they may incorporate into their Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) or maintain as a separate document. Employers are also required to conduct workplace violence training and create workplace violence incident logs.
The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) is responsible for enforcing this new law. To help employers with drafting their plan, Cal/OSHA recently published a model workplace violence prevention plan along with fact sheets. Similar to Cal/OSHA’s model COVID-19 Prevention Plan, the model workplace violence prevention plan contains:
Napa DTC Shipments Lead the Pack
Direct-to-consumer (DtC) shipment value rose more than 5% versus a year ago to more than $390 million in April, WineBusiness Analytics/Sovos ShipCompliant reported. Volume for the month fell more than 2% to 604,871 cases. The average bottle price of shipments remained strong, rising 8% versus a year ago to $53.77, also a new record for the month. Construction crews have been hard at work. While some parts are ready, the full experience is still underway adding safety features, pavement treatments, and trail elements. Eric Gallegos joins Yountville's Cliff Lede Vineyards
Eric Gallegos has joined Cliff Lede Vineyards as director of vineyard operations at the Yountville-area winery.
Equipped with extensive knowledge of the Napa Valley wine industry, Gallegos will oversee all farming and viticulture of the winery’s 160 acres of estate vineyards across the Stags Leap District, Carneros and Calistoga AVAs, according to a news release.
To build on his education, he returned home to work harvest before taking on a crucial role at his father’s new vineyard management company. There, Gallegos was a key player in the development of several vineyards alongside viticulturist Nathan Baty, who later hired him to work with some of Napa’s most acclaimed winemakers, including Thomas Rivers Brown and Philippe Melka.
